                         CONTROL and ESCAPE Commands

In addition to the function keys, the following  other  keystroke  commands  are
available  to  you  within  the  Standard  User  Interface.  Others, too, may be
available  if  you  choose to run EMACS in -SUIX mode.  ^ means hold the CONTROL
key down  and  then press the corresponding alphabetic key;  ESC means press the
ESC key, release it, then press the following key(s).

^P  halts EMACS;  follow instructions, either to exit to PRIMOS, or to continue.

^G  Aborts an incompletely invoked EMACS command         ^I  Same as the TAB key

^L  Refreshes the screen       (useful if a system message garbles your display)

^_  CONTROL-UNDERSCORE            Requests EMACS's internal help_on_tap function

^X Q  Quote the next character typed (includes RETURN or  any control-character)

ESC <number>  `Numeric Prefix' -- tells EMACS how many times to do the next
               command -- e.g., ESC 10 <DEL WORD> cuts the next 10 words
