Hi,<br><br>
More fun for software archeologists. I have quit a number of files
with suffixes .pmd, .omi, and .uii. Only .pmd is on a registered
list, but of course my files have nothing to do with any of the
definitions there. That's because these are files in formats
devised by the small company that I'm working for. But if we do
such things in a small way, there could be others doing such things in a
large way. <br><br>
In this case it isn't so mysterious, because all of the files can be read
in text format, and all are XML formats. Can anyone find the
dictionary? Oh, and was that UTF8 or CP1252 (otherwise known as
Windows-1252) character encoding? And XML doesn't mean easy to
read. One of the developers admits that even he can't decypher some
of the files with a .xml suffix. That particular type of .xml file
is just too complex. <br><br>

In this connection, I have found the following resource useful:<br><br>
FILExt - The File Extension Source<br>
<a href="http://filext.com/">http://filext.com/</a><br><br>
I am amused to note that it lists 9 definitions for PDF, only one of
which is the Portable Document Format from Adobe.<br><br>

<pre>I ran an experiment to count the number of different file suffix

Summary: 1542 different suffixes, and 11512 files with no suffixes

237,000 files ( 141 Gigabytes).
Two page report is attached.
